The best strength-building exercises are compound exercises - they use entire groups of muscle to perform movements that underpin daily activity. When training, these are the exercises that build the greatest strength in a balanced way. This home gym permits the very best form of both compound and isolation exercises, those that target single muscles.  Mix resistance, rests, and rep numbers and you can meet many cardio, leanness and strength goals. It's all done in a compact space, and it's heavier than a rack - 132 kg empty - yet takes up a lot less space than a rack. It takes up about the same depth (and it has a serious cable capability in there) as a rack - but doesn't need the space at the sides, with the working area around the bar.  Dimensions are in a pic above.

Clever design means the press arms use only 57.5 inches (1.46 m)  width. You get much more grip variety than with a rack.  Isolateral press arms, which permit independent use for each arm,, are offered by sliding a steel pin from one position to another.  Same with self-spotting. Just move a big steel pin.  Muscles develop differently, so there's a need to balance them with isolateral exercise. And mixing bilateral with unilateral brings more variety.

The machine is tough, and of superb finish and quality. The lever arms use heavy steel and industrial bearings on each.  It's good for all-angles of 220 kg presses and several squat types.  Squats perfectly isolate the quads. It's also excellent for split squats or step back lunges, where the lever arms offer an extra bit of stability over the dumbbell or barbell form of the exercise. (The lever arms are also great for bent-over rows.) The cable system is good for 130 kg plus.  One reason it meets the European Union's EN 957 standard for commercial use.  

In the video above, just some of the best training exercises are demonstrated by Lee Priest.  All can be done on this machine in standard form. Take the moves slower, with a half-dozen heavy reps, and build mass.  Build power and leanness with a more reps per set, and less weight.  Go down to 50-60% of your max lift weight, and with high reps and short breaks, build a powerful cardio pump. Constantly improved for over 15 years, the Leverage Gym has an integrated bench which can be detached and removed in seconds (it has wheels)  With a backward-forward sealed-bearing movement that provides for superb positioning with press exercises, it's super comfortable.  (Close-up in picture 3)  A lock-and-load option attachment at the front lets you add other devices, such as pec flye, dip, leg press and arm curl attachments.  These are for exercise variety.  The important stuff''s already taken care of.  And they don't take up more space - your legs usually go there anyway!  The rear cable unit leverage assures constant resistance through the movement. (I didn't believe it till I saw it)

The Leverage Gym is particularly valuable because it suits both beginners and advanced trainers. Beginners get to perform all the major exercises that will help build a foundation with complete safety.  The machine will let you get in the right position for each exercise and the leverage format means you don't get trapped under a barbell.  And there's extraordinary grip variety and body fit.  (An area where many so-called "home gyms" are useless) For advanced trainers, there are no buts .....("but a multi gym is not going to be a strong back machine, or a strong leg machine".. ... etc. )  Not true. There aren't compromises - it's a great arms machine, a great chest machine, a great back machine, and a great legs machine.  (Actually, legs training has a feature that's not easy to see...the squat design perfectly isolates the quads, and delivers excellent split squats or backward lunges, with the lever arm offering more stability over the dumbbell or barbell form of the exercises.

What's Included

The Leverage Gym as quoted comes with a wide lat pull-down bar, a short press down bar, with revolving handles, and a single curl, or stirrup handle. Weight plates aren't included. 

Colour:  Tower unit is industrial yellow, matt finish.  Bench is matt black.    Construction: the Leverage Gym is constructed with 3" & 2" steel tubing with a 12 gauge (2.5 mm) wall thickness. Lever arms are 3 mm thick steel with a pair of heavy duty bearings on each arm. Padding is industrial grade high density foam with double stitched upholstery. A durable baked on powder coat finish is applied to the frame.

    Powertec owns its own manufacturing. (Many suppliers don't; they use third parties. How serious is your overall commitment to the product when you put its supply up for auction? Powertec uses more cold-formed steel processes; this makes equipment tougher, per unit of weight, and gives a far better finish. (Notice others' products aren't often shown closeup?) Powertec was first in power rack and leverage gym markets for the individual; it remains there.

    Do a circuit like this every couple of days for a couple of weeks and you'll see what results are about (this assumes you're familiar with circuits and weight training, and can easily determine a reasonable resistance level for high quality execution of each of the reps - 70% of max is merely a suggestion):

    • 12 bench presses at 60% of your maximum lift, rest for 45 seconds
    • 12 cable rows at 60% of your maximum, 45 seconds rest and change to next
    • 12 squats on a similar basis, 45 second rest
    • 12 dead lifts
    • 12 close-grip bench presses, and 12 close grip lat pull-downs

    Then do another couple of circuits, changing the exercise angles or grip width, or exercise style, like bent over rows rather than cable. All up this should take somewhere around 21-22 minutes. If you've away from this sort of workout a while, take a three-day gap, then a two day one, then go to every second day, wither perhaps an extra day off, so four times a week
